| Front: Cape Verdean poet and writer Jorge Barbosa (1902–1971). "CLARIDADE" was the literary and cultural magazine that emerged in 1936 in the city of Mindelo (CV). Reverse: Lines* from J. Barbosa’s poem “Casebre” (Hut, cabin, shack, hovel). Part of the illustration depicting women taken from the front cover of the "Claridade" magazine. Barragem de Poilão (Poilão Dam) on Santiago island, which was home of Jorge Barbosa. Watermark: Jorge Barbosa smoking a pipe; Electrotype image of a typewriter; Reinforced cornerstones. Security features: Consecutively running vertical ascending red and horizontal ascending black serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Invisible colored filament fibers (hairs), vertical serial number and the denomination block "500" (on the front), and part of the design and the quill pen in an inkpot (on the back) fluorescing under ultraviolet light. Silver foil holographic patch in a form of an open book bearing repeated "BCV 500". Solid, vertical, fully embedded 1 mm wide metallic security thread. Raised ink. Microtext. See-through register as quill pen. Blind embossing for the visually impaired. 15 mm wide band of irridescent ink bearing vertically repeated "500". Excerpt from a "Panu di Terra" (Pano da Terra; Earth Cloth) cloth pattern, executed in embossed paint, with the denomination "500" hidden within it, which can be viewed by holding the bank note at the right angle.
