Front: François-Marie Arouet de Voltaire (21st November, 1694 – 30th May, 1778) - French writer and philosopher - engraving by Dominique Vivant, baron de Denon. Palais des Tuileries in Paris engraved after the painting by François Raguenet as Voltaire could see from his apartment where he died. Back: François Voltaire wearing a wig and writing with a quill pen. Château de Cirey at the commune Cirey-sur-Blaise in Haute-Marne (Champagne) near the border with independent duchy of Lorraine - area of the Marquise du Châtelet, where the Voltaire lived from 1733 to 1740. Watermark: Portrait of François Voltaire (without a wig). Security features: Watermark. Consecutively running, black, horizontal series and serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Raised ink. Main colours: Multicolor. Work by: Jean Lefeuvre. Engraved by: Robert Armanelli (obverse), Jules Piel (intaglio) and Gilbert Poilliot (reverse). Watermark engraved by Michel Valentini (BdF). Signature titles: Le Contrôleur G(énér)al; Le Secrétaire G(énér)al; Le Caissier G(énér)al. Signatures vary. Issuer: Bank of France. Dates of Issue: 4 January 1963 through 8 November 1973.
