Front: Independence Arch in the Independence Square at Accra, Ghana, inscribed with the words "Freedom and Justice, AD 1957". The Big Six, - six leaders of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), the leading political party in the British colony of the Gold Coast: Dr. Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo, Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah, Kwame Nkrumah, Emmanuel Odarkwei Obetsebi-Lamptey, William Ofori Atta. Coat of arms of Ghana, inscribed with the words "Freedom and Justice". Back: The hydroelectric power plant on Lake Volta and Akosombo Dam. A pile of gold bars and '1' as a see-through feature. Watermark: Portrait of Tetteh Quarshie; Cacao pod; Electrotype "1"; Cornerstones. Security features: Consecutively running red vertical and black horizontal ascending serial numbers on the front of the banknote. Fluorescing on the obverse under ultraviolet light: the vertical serial number (orange), the '1' denominational block and the coloured filament fibers (hairs). The design segment around the stockpile of the gold bars and the filament fibers (hairs) on the reverse fluoresce in blue and yellow colours while being exposed to ultraviolet light. Solid reverse-embedded yet semi-exposed (segmented, windowed) on the obverse 3 mm wide red Galaxy® security thread that displays opposite reflections when the banknote is turned up or down vertically. Predominant colours: Red and rose. Artist: De La Rue. Engraver: De La Rue. Signature: Ernest Addison (Governor, appointed on 3 April 2017). Printing method: Intaglio. Issuer: Bank of Ghana.
