| Isles of France & of
Bourbon, located in the Indian Ocean about 500 miles east of Madagascar, were at one time administered by France as a single colony. Isle of France, renamed Mauritius, became a British colony in 1810 until independent in 1968. Isle of Bourbon, renamed Reunion in 1793, remained a French possession and is now a French overseas department. |
