Security features:

Transparent window: Head of Mountain Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) and embossed denomination value.

Shadow image ("watermark"): Portrait and NBR logo, next to the transparent window. The shadow image is visible only when the banknote is held up to the light.

Security thread: Hold the banknote against the light and the thread will appear as a dark narrow stripe in the middle area.

Perfect register: Compass, visible when the banknote is held up to the light. Parts of the compass printed on the obverse beneath the name of the central bank match perfectly with the parts printed on the reverse and build a complete image.

Iridescent stripe on the reverse side: All Romanian notes in circulation have on the right of the reverse side a vertical translucent iridescent stripe which has the nominal value printed seven times.

Microtext: All Romanian notes in circulation have, on the obverse and reverse, printed areas which contain tiny writing. This can be seen using a magnifying glass.

UV print: On the reverse, green rectangle in UV light which holds the nominal value: "50". The black vertical serial number shines green, the red horizontal increasing characters serial number shines orange in UV light.

Golden overprinted patch: On the right side on the obverse having the shape of a head of a mountain eagle.

Raised print: Special printing technique makes the ink feel raised on both sides on the main design elements of the 50 Lei banknote.

Latent image: When the note is tilted, the letters "BNR" can be seen on the left shoulder of Aurel Vlaicu.

Micro perforation: On the obverse, overlapping the flower, the nominal value is visible when the note is held up to the light in the 50 Lei bank note.

Optically variable ink: Some elements of the 50 Lei notes change colours from gold to green when the note is tilted.
