Front: León Cathedral or Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, also known as the "Real and Renowned Basilica Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary" (Spanish: Real e Insigne Basílica de la Asunción de la Bienaventurada Virgen María), León, Nicaragua. Complex window with Aurora® effect as blossoms of the Flor de Sacuanjoche or Frangipani (Plumeria rubra) as see-through feature. Back: Smoking Momotombo Volcano near León. Coat of arms of Nicaragua. Nicaraguan ornaments as guilloche patterns and rosettes. Shadow image: "500". Security features: Consecutively running vertical black and red horizontal ascending serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Microprinting.
