Front: Effigy of the Portuguese XV century explorer and slave trader Nuno Tristão. Portuguese coat of arms (Armillary sphere + the quinas + the castles). Lintels with ornamental designs. Back: Seal of the Banco Nacional Ultramarino. Young woman in harbour. Sailing ship. Steam passenger ship. Caravel and other smaller sailing vessels, one of them that looks like a Roman warship with oars. Watermark: Enframed in a cameo: Nuno Tristão. Security features: Running black horizontal serial numbers on the obverse. Watermarked paper. Vertical, solid, fully embedded 0.5 mm wide security strip. Main colour: Blue. Artist: Unknown.
