Obverse: Effigy of President Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1922–1999). Coat of arms depicting male and female holding elephant tusks. Branch of a Clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum) and a palm tree. Reverse: Lions in a Breonadia tree and giraffes. Wreath of Coffee (Coffea arabica) branches (as a see-through register) and an Impatiens (Impatiens walleriana) flower. Ornamental guilloche pattern, lathework. Watermark: Head of a giraffe. Security features: Consecutively running black horizontal serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Solid, fully embedded, vertical 1/2 mm wide security tread. Tactile feature: N/a. Main colour: Deep red. Signature: Amir H. Jamal (Minister for Finance, 1965–1972); Edwin I.
