2000 Lire D.1990 (Obverse: Portrait of an Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi (1874 - 1937), best known for his development of a radiotelegraph system. A seal depicting winged lion of St. Mark, symbol of Venice above three shields of Genoa, Pisa and Amalfi (maritime republics). Reverse: Marconi's yacht "Elettra". Radio telegraph towers at "CC" Marconi Wireless Telegraph Station in S. Wellfleet, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The station was scrapped in 1920 after beach erosion threatened to collapse two of the towers. Marconi's early wireless transmission, broadcasting and recording apparatus. Watermark: Portrait of Guglielmo Marconi; electrotype logo of the Bank of Italy. Security features: Solid, embedded 0,75mm wide vertical security thread.
