5 Dollars 1999 (Obverse: Portrait of first President of Singapore (Encik) Yusof bin Ishak (1910–1970). Gold-Ringed Cowrie (Cypraea annulus (Linnaeus 1758)) (in the background), used as shell money. Coat of arms. Stylized lion head registration device. Reverse: Garden City: trees and flowers with skyscrapers in the background. Tembusu tree (Fagraea fragrans) at Singapore Botanic Gardens. Singapore Orchids (Vanda 'Miss Joaquim' ). Watermark: Yusof bin Ishak; Two small circles positioned vertically executed in electrotype. Main colour: Green. Signature: Richard Hu Tsu Tau (Chairman, Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore (Chairman MAS, 1985–1997; Minister for Finance, 1985–2001)). Tactile feature: Two green intaglio circle dots in the upper right corner of the obverse, positioned vertically. Security features: Holographic octagon OVD (Optically Variable Device) identifying the banknote's denomination. Consecutively running ascending black horizontal and ascending brown vertical serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Invisible security fibers (hairs), the hi-lite denomination '5' block, the serial numbers, the embossed flag bearing a stylized head of a lion and parts of the design fluoresce while exposed to an ultraviolet light. Solid, vertical, windowed on the reverse, 3 mm wide metallic security thread with demetalized "SINGAPORE $5" (also in Chinese characters) text repeated. Raised ink. See-through register.
