5 Rupees 1.1.1982 (Front: XIIth century Buddhist vatadage (covered stupa temple) in Polonnaruwa. Back: Detail of a sculpted guardstone (Muragala) with serpent king Naga Raja carrying symbols of abundance at Rathna Prasada (Jewel Palace) in Anuradhapura. Naga Raja is a guardian of wealth and harbinger of prosperity. Watermark: Chinthe ("Chinze") lion. Security features: Watermark. Running black horizontal duplicate serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote that somehow fluoresce yellow under ultraviolet light. Also chinthe lion holding a sword, denomination and other parts of the banknote design fluoresce exposed to the UV light. Predominant colour: Red.
